I need to journal about this today before I forget and it all fades away. Kate was baptized today in our church. She turned 8 in October but for scheduling reasons couldn't get her baptized until now, Jan 9 2015. It was such a special event. I have to mentioned I was very stressed out over planning the whole thing, but I did recognize the hand of the Lord in preparing for this baptism because everything magically fell into place and it went so smoothly!
Now for the details of the baptism. It was stressful getting out the door on time, and I felt like I was packing for a trip with all the stuff I needed to bring but we did it. And nothing got left behind. We did a family dinner with pizza and some sides before the baptism with family. Everyone pitched in to make that happen actually I don't want to forget how much work Warren and Andrea put into this night. They did a lot! Helped set up, clean up with food, the works!
Kate received several special gifts, a beautiful towel from Andrea, with her name embroidered on it. A set of scriptures from her nana and grandaddy. She received a framed picture of Christ, a frame with her baptism date and name all cutely printed. Nana brought her a dress to wear in the font that was the same dress all her girls wore, and now all her grandchild have worn to be baptized. I didn't realize this dress existed so it was fun to see it and learn about it.
The service began with Emily giving a cute talk about Kate's firsts! A timeline with cute pictures of Kate and some of her firsts. Then she talked about how baptism is a first, being clean again. It was a cute talk and I can tell Kate enjoyed it.
Kate was then baptized, grandaddy was a witness along with Justin Horrocks. Took Kate 3x to be dunked. I think she liked it! The first thing she said after coming of the water was how cold she was, then she said how cool it felt to be perfectly clean, all her sins washed away. So cute that she said that!
Brother Bye gave a little talk right after the baptism and congratulated her on how quickly she made it back after to drying off. And that she deserved a donut, even 2, Kate was so excited, she actually got up and headed out the room she thought he meant she could have a donut now!!! We all got a chuckle for that one! Literal Kate.
Nana gave her talk on the Holy Ghost, it was just so cute. She talked a lot about all the different ways the Holy Ghost has helped her in her life, and said it's like a present that when you open it there are a lot of gifts in the box. Gifts that keep us safe, gifts that help us find the right path, gifts that help us understand things like languages, gifts that help us know the BOM is true, gifts that help us be healed.
Brock did the confirmation prayer for Kate. It was an amazing prayer, the most beautiful and amazing things were said. I wished I had a pencil to write them down, it was very hard to hear what he was saying. I'll try and remember....he said how much Kate has meant to him, she changed him when she was born to our family. How she will always choose the right, and do it even naturally. How special she is to everyone around her. I wish I could remember more, but the words were just so awesome. I really felt the spirit.
Sophie and her boyfriend sang Beautiful Savior, of course it was absolutely amazing.
Lydia gave the closing prayer, this is where I completely lost control and cracked up uncontrollably. I was pretty much in tears laughing so hard. Troy Bye half way through his talk, stopped while at the podium and said, why am I speaking into this mic, it's not even plugged in, so he unhooked the mic and put in inside the storage compartment in the podium. I helped Lydia with her prayer she wanted the mic hooked back up, even though it didn't do anything....she just wanted to use the mic. For some reason I found this so funny. I couldn't stop laughing. It took me a few seconds to gather myself so I could help Lydia with her prayer. She was so sweet and innocent just wanting to use the mic. I shouldn't have been so silly about the whole thing...but as we all know it doesn't take much to get me to laugh uncontrollably!
For refreshment's we had Kate's favorite, donuts and hot chocolate!
What a great night. I need to have Kate write about her baptism so she won't forget. I'm sure it isn't nearly as big of a deal for her as it was for me.
Am glad it's over and now I'm 2 years away from the next one!
